Monday, August 28

At Mocon, in game 3 of the B Division final, it was the Angels edging out the Cannons, 12-11 in 9 innings.  Jason Blommaert went 9 innings, striking out 8 along the way, for the win.  Dan Fortosky Got the game winning RBI.  Kyle Bergenser and Russ Schneider each had a 3 hit game.  The Angels are the B Division Champs for 2023.  Congratulations to both the Angels and Cannons on an excellent finish to the season.

Wednesday, August 23

At Mocon in game #1, it was the Angels and Cannons facing off in game 2 of that series.  The Angels came out on top, 10-9, with the Cannons stranding the tying run on third in the bottom of the seventh.  Jason Blommaert went 4 innings to record the win and Dan "the Man" Fortosky came up big with 5 RBIs to lead the way offensively.  The deciding game 3 will be held on Monday.

In game 2, it was game 2 between the Thunder and the Rangers in the A Division final.  Darren Johnson threw a complete game, striking out 4, while the offense was paced by Tobin Issel, who went 2 for 3 with 2 steals, including a steal of home.  Cory Hall went 3 for 3 with a double and the Rangers prevailed, 11-2, winning their 5th championship in 6 years.  Congratulations to the Rangers and to the Thunder on another great season.

Tuesday, August 22

Tonight's game between the Rangers and Thunder is cancelled as  field conditions are too wet.  It will be played tomorrow at 9:00 p.m. at Mocon #1 following the Angels / Cannons game.  The game time for the Angels / Cannons game is now 6:30 p.m.

Monday, August 21

In game 1 of the B Division final it was the Cannons over the Angels, 9-7.  Mike Hertz went 6 2/3 innings before giving way to Josh Kerpan, who came in and got the last out on one pitch.  Hertz also went 3 for 3 at the plate with a triple and 3 RBIs.  Game 2 of the final will be on Wednesday.

Thursday, August 17

In game one of the A Division Finals, the Rangers trounced the Thunder, 12-3, on the strength of an 11K pitching performance from Cory Halls.  The offence was paced by the brothers Hersikorn as they combined for 5 hits at the top of the order and Garrett Olver contributed 4 RBIs.  Game 2 will go on Tuesday.

Wednesday, August 16

The only action today was a doubleheader between the Angels and Cardinals to determine which team would enter the B Division finals against the Cannons.  I game 1 the Angels got out to a quick start and put up four runs in the top of the first, but in the bottom half the Cardinals countered with four to tie the game.  The game remained deadlocked until the bottom of the sixth when the Cardinals put up another four spot to take the lead.  The Angels managed one in the seventh and lost, 8-5.  The Cardinals evened the series at one going into the second, and deciding, game of the doubleheader.  Jonathan Ikert pitched a complete game win for the Cardinals.

In game 2 the Angels got out to another four run lead in the first, but the game went back and forth until the seventh when the Angels won with a 10-5 lead.  Jason Blommaert pitched the complete game victory to send the Angels to the B Division final on Monday.

Tuesday, August 15

Tonight at Leakos, the Cannons prevailed over the Sabres by a score of 4-2.  Matt Lofstrom earned the win by pitching 6 2/3 strong innings.  Josh Kerpan came in for the save.  The Cannons have defeated the Sabres 2 games to none and have moved forward to the B Division final to play the winner of the Angels / Cardinals series.

At Mocon in Martensville it was the Rangers defeating the Brewers, 16-1, in 5 innings to earn their way into the A Division final against the Thunder in a rematch of last year's final.  Chad Nixey led the offense by going four for four with two triples and a double.  Darren Johnson threw five strong innings.  The A Division final will start on Thursday at Mocon Field.

Thursday, August 10

Tonight's game between the Rangers and Brewers was rained out.  It will be played on Tuesday, August 15 at 6:30 pm at Mocon Field.  Game 3, if required, will be on Thursday at 6:30 at Mocon #1.

The Sabres and Cannons were also rained out.  Game 2 is moved to Tuesday, August 15 at 6:00 at Leakos.  Game 3, if required, will be Wednesday, August 16, at 6:00 at Leakos. 

Wednesday, August 9

In round #2 action in B Division, at Leakos it was a rematch of last year's semifinal between the Angels and Cardinals.  It was a pitcher's duel between Jason Blommaert and Derek Marshall, with the Angels coming out on top, 3-1, on the strength of a Kyle Bergenser 2-run home run in the top of the first.  Both pitchers went the distance in this low-scoring opener.  Game #2 (and #3 if necessary) will be on Wednesday, August 16, at Mocon Field.

In the other semifinal it was the Cannons routing the Sabres, 10-3.  Mike Hertz went the distance for the Cannons, picking up the win.  Josh Kerpan went 4 for 4 and Jon Kulyk plated 3 runs for the offence.  Game 2 will be on Thursday at Mocon at 6:30.

Tuesday, August 8

At Stonebridge South in game 3 between the Angels and Peelers, it was the Angels prevailing, 17-7.  Kyle McCarty and Jacob Hall each went 3 innings.  Tanner Baht, Ben Copeland and Russ Schneider each had 3 RBIs in the Angels victory.  The Angels now advance to round 2 to play the Cardinals in a rematch of last year's semifinal.  The Sabres will play the Cannons in the other semifinal.

At Leakos, in the A Division semifinal between the Rangers and Brewers, it was the Rangers edging the Brewers, 2-1, in a pitcher's duel between Owen Knight and Jake Hersikorn.  Jake Hersikorn collected the win as well as leading the offense with 2 hits and an RBI.  Game 2 will go Thursday at 6:30 at Cairns.

At Mocon in Martensville, the Thunder and Northeast Red Sox faced off in a doubleheader to start their 2nd round series.  In game #1 the Thunder won by a score of 9-3.  Payton McHarg and Jordan Gerwing each had three hits and multiple RBIs to lead the offense.  Jaxon Raffey closed out the game going 11 up and 11 down.

In Game #2, the Thunder shutout the Red Sox, 7-0.  Trent Marien threw a no-hitter, striking out 11 batters.  Bob Hudec and Ryan Gerwing each had 3 hits and several RBIs.  The Thunder now advance to the A Division final and await the winner of the Rangers/Brewers series.

Thursday, August 3

At Leakos it was the Brewers over the Armadillos in game 3 of their series by a score of 12-6.  Tysen Apple picked up the win and Logan Knight closed it out.  Carter Walter hit another bomb, a 3 run shot, and tallied 5 RBIs.  The Brewers advance to the second round to face the Rangers.

At Dief it was the Cardinals over the Tigers, 7-2.  It was 2-2 after 5, but the Cards broke it open in the sixth with 3 runs, and two more for insurance in the 7th.  Jon Ikert pitched the first five frames until he left with an injury. Up to that point he had struck out 2 Tiger batters, but only gave up 2 earned runs.  Jack Gherasim came in relief in the 6th and allowed no runs and retired all 6 batters faced with 2 on strikeouts to pick up the win.  Jon Ikert went 3 for 3 with 3 stolen bags and 3 runs scored to lead the offense.  The Cardinals now advance to the second round.

At Stonebridge North it was the Peelers over the Angels, 5-4, in 8 innings.  Jacob Stalwick tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with a triple.  Kaden Wright walked it off in the 8th.  Kyle Fraser threw a complete game, striking out 13 Angel batters, to pick up the win.  Game 3 will be on Tuesday at Stonebridge South to determine who advances to the 2nd round.

Wednesday, August 2

At Stonebridge South it was the Sabres over the Reds, 4-0, in the fourth when an ejection to a Reds player caused the game to be forfeit.  Caleb Williams struck out 8 on his way to the win and Jarred Stratechuk went 2 for 3 at the dish with and RBI.  Graham Broadfoot went 2 for 2 with an RBI as well.  The Sabres now advance to the second round.

At Leakos the Thunder beat the Rangers in extra innings, 2-1.  It was a pitcher's duel with Bob Hudec, Jaxon Raffey and Payton McHarg all pitching well for the Thunder.  Payton pitched an immaculate inning in the top of the 7th and Anrew Hudec came up to win it in the bottom half of the inning with a walk-off double.  With the win the Thunder secure the first seed in the A Division, and the Rangers take the second seed.  

At Stonebridge North it was the Armadillos over the Brewers, 5-4, to even the series.  Chad Mukanik went seven innings to secure the win.

At Dief it was the Cannons over the Rhinos, 9-8, to clinch the first round series.  Josh Kerpan got the save, getting out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the 7th.  Reed Boles picked up the win.  Mike Hertz went 2 for 3 with 4 RBI to lead the Cannons attack.  Jon Kulyk also added a 2 run homer. 

At Mocon Field the Red Sox swept their doubleheader by winning game 1, 9-7, and game 2, 14-1, over the Rockies.  Great pitching from Devin Gerwing and Tyrell Nicklin and hot hitting from Adam Osczevski contributed to the wins.

Tuesday, August 1

At Leakos it was game one between the Tigers and the Cardinals.  It was a back and forth affair that ended up going 8 innings.  Both pitchers, Jamie Jantzen for the Tigers, and Derek Marshall for the Cardinals, pitched complete games.  After seven innings the game was tied at 7.  In the top of the eighth, the Tigers had runners on second and third with one out when the batter hit a line drive come-backer to the mound.  Derek Marshall made the catch and doubled off the runner at third to get out of the inning without any damage.  In the bottom of the eighth, the Cards started with the runner on second, who was bunted to third on a sacrifice by Scott Arthur.  With one out Jon Ikert hit a line drive sacrifice to center field to score Billy Gherasim for the walk-off winner, 8-7.  Derek Marshall tallied 8 strikeouts in the win.

At Dief the Peelers forfeit game one of their series with the Angels due to only having 7 players.  The Angels are credited with a win.

Monday, July 31

At Stonebridge South it was the Brewers over the Armadillos in a nail-biter, 11-10.  Owen Knight picked up the win and Carter Walter hit a grand slam and a triple.  Kyle Gregoire chipped in with a finger too.

At Stonebridge North the Cannons shelled the Rhinos, 11-0, in five innings.  Mike Hertz pitched the entire game for the win.

At Dief it was the Sabres over the Reds, 10-3.  The Reds had a two-run homerun in the top of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead, but in the bottom of the same inning the Sabres hit a two run shot of their own off of the bat of Jarred Stratechuk to regain the lead, which they would not relinquish.  That was all that Justin Tehse needed as he went 7 innings, striking out 9 to collect the win.  The Sabres scored six insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.  An honourable mention goes out to James Owens, who went 3 for 4 with a homerun short of the cycle and 5 RBIs.

Game 2 in all of these series goes on Wednesday.
